How to choose the right underlay for your flooring

When installing the flooring it is important to use the right underlayment to keep the floor beautiful and comfortable for a long time.

The floor experts of Arbiton have developed over 20 types of underlays, which fulfill the four basic needs: acoustic comfort, thermal insulation, floor heating and traffic durability.

Arbiton underlayment meets the requirements of EPLF (Association of European Producers of Laminate Floor).

The choice of underlayment should conform to the following conditions to be able to perform important functions and protect the whole floor system:

CHOOSE THE TYPE OF FLOORING

Different floors need underlayment with different functions. Choose the floor you want to install: laminate or wooden flooring – floating; luxury vinyl tiles (LVT) – click system type or Dryback by glueing; ceramics or wood – glued.

CHOOSE THE BASE YOU HAVE

Mineral (e.g. concrete) or non-mineral (e.g. wooden). Mineral bases can accumulate and emit back moisture. Therefore, vapor barrier >> should be used before floor installation. Most of Arbiton’s underlays have integrated vapor barrier and self-adhesive tape. The base condition: displacement, moisture, type of patching, existing floor heating

WHAT ARE YOUR REQUIREMENTS FOR COMFORT AND DURABILITY OF THE FLOORING

Do you have to insulate the floor against cold? Do you want to reduce the noise in the room? Is the premise going to be used a lot? Does the base have uneven surface?
